BreachForums, a well-known cybercrime platform, has reappeared on a clearnet domain, making it accessible without the need for tools such as Tor. The forum, previously a center for data leaks, hacking tools, and illicit trades, went offline earlier due to law enforcement actions and internal disruptions.
The platform’s return was announced by the administrator, referred to as “koko,” who confirmed that core functionalities have been restored using a recent backup. Users can once again access sections focused on stolen credentials, ransomware discussions, and zero-day exploits. The administrator indicated that the site now offers enhanced anonymity features.
However, the revival follows a compromise in the old escrow system that handled cryptocurrency transactions, resulting in significant losses. The team is now rebuilding the escrow service with improved encryption and multi-signature wallets to address these vulnerabilities.
BreachForums, originally launched in 2022 as a successor to RaidForums, has experienced multiple disruptions, including FBI seizures and arrests. The move to a clearnet domain aims to attract a broader audience by bypassing the complexities of the dark web.
Despite claims of operational improvements, there is skepticism within the cyber community. Concerns have been raised about the potential monitoring of the site by law enforcement agencies. Experts advise caution, noting that clearnet domains are more easily tracked by authorities.
The platform remains a valuable resource for researchers while posing significant threats, as noted by industry experts.
