Visitors' first impressions in corporate, hotel, or residential lobbies are crucial. This study examines how large abstract artworks transformed an ordinary lobby into a memorable space.
The lobby, located on the third floor of a mid-century office building, initially featured high ceilings and modular lighting but lacked visual impact due to outdated decor. The design team aimed to create a lasting impression with the following goals:
Visual Anchor: Capture immediate attention. Modern Aesthetics: Add warmth and personality. Leverage Height: Use large-format art for high ceilings. Budget-Friendly: Utilize durable materials within a moderate budget.
Large abstract paintings were selected for their suitability to the space:
Scale Compatibility: The 12-foot tall walls balanced well with oversized art. Emotional Flexibility: Abstracts offer varied emotional interpretations. Design Adaptability: Abstracts integrate with evolving decor schemes.
Artworks were sourced from MUSA Art Gallery . Two vertical abstracts, measuring 8 ft × 5 ft each, were chosen for their bold and complementary color schemes.
Installing large artwork required careful planning:
Structural Support: Reinforced walls and secure hangers ensured stability. Optimal Lighting: Dimmable track lighting and LED bars highlighted the artwork without glare. Strategic Placement: Positioned to draw attention from various entry points.
Visitors' first impressions in corporate, hotel, or residential lobbies are crucial.
The installation resulted in significant changes:
Enhanced Visual Appeal: The space became bright and expressive. Mood Improvement: The color scheme balanced serenity and energy. Brand Perception: The lobby appeared thoughtfully designed, enhancing brand image.
