ChatGPT Health: A New Secure Space for Trusted Health and Medical Conversations

ChatGPT Health introduces a specialized health-focused version of ChatGPT, designed to integrate personalized health data with enhanced privacy and security controls. This platform aims to support, rather than replace, discussions with healthcare professionals.

ChatGPT Health assists users in understanding their health information, preparing for appointments, interpreting test results, and managing wellness decisions. It allows secure connections to data sources such as Apple Health, Function, MyFitnessPal, and U.S. medical records through partner b.well, enabling responses grounded in users' lab results, activity trends, medications, or insurance details.

The platform emphasizes explanation, context, and planning, such as clarifying lab reports, organizing questions for healthcare providers, or outlining lifestyle strategies, rather than diagnosing or prescribing treatments. It acts as a companion to facilitate informed conversations with healthcare providers, without replacing professional care.

ChatGPT Health operates as a separate entity within ChatGPT, with conversations, connected apps, files, and memories stored and processed independently from general chats. Health-specific information is isolated, ensuring sensitive medical data is compartmentalized.

All ChatGPT conversations are encrypted at rest and in transit, with Health incorporating additional encryption and isolation for health data due to its higher sensitivity. Conversations in Health are not used to train foundation models, and users have the option to view or delete Health memories and disconnect apps or record access as desired.

ChatGPT Health was developed in collaboration with over 260 physicians from 60 countries and multiple specialties, who provided feedback on numerous model responses. This input influenced system priorities, including safety measures, urgency indicators for clinician follow-ups, and balancing clear language with medical accuracy.

OpenAI established HealthBench, a clinical evaluation framework with physician-written rubrics, to assess safety, clarity, escalation, and contextual appropriateness, beyond exam-style correctness. This ensures ChatGPT Health performs effectively in real-world tasks, supporting healthcare providers rather than replacing them.

ChatGPT Health is initially available to a select group of early users on a waitlist, accessible to individuals on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK. As the platform evolves, access will expand to all users on web and iOS, with some integrations, such as U.S. medical records and certain apps, initially limited to the United States and requiring iOS for Apple Health connections.
