A high-severity security advisory has been issued regarding a critical vulnerability in Cisco Meeting Management software. This vulnerability permits authenticated remote attackers to upload harmful files and gain full control over the affected system.
The security flaw, identified as CVE-2026-20098, carries a high severity rating due to its ability to grant "root" access, the highest level of administrative permission on a device. Exploitation of this weakness allows attackers to bypass security restrictions and assume complete control of the server.
The issue originates in the Certificate Management feature of the Cisco Meeting Management web interface, intended for managing digital certificates. Improper input validation results in the system's failure to adequately verify uploaded files. Consequently, a remote attacker can deceive the system into accepting malicious files instead of valid certificates.
A high-severity security advisory has been issued regarding a critical vulnerability in Cisco Meeting Management software.
To exploit this vulnerability, attackers must possess valid credentials, specifically requiring the "video operator" role. Although this requirement limits the immediate threat, the impact of a successful breach remains severe.
This vulnerability affects Cisco Meeting Management releases 3.12 and earlier. Cisco has confirmed the flaw exists irrespective of device configuration. No workarounds are available; thus, changing settings will not mitigate the risk. The recommended resolution is to update to Cisco Meeting Management release 3.12.1 MR or later, which corrects the input validation error and prevents unauthorized file uploads.
The vulnerability was discovered and reported to Cisco by the NATO Cyber Security Centre Penetration Testing Team. As of now, there are no reports of this flaw being exploited in malicious attacks. Organizations are advised to patch promptly to prevent attackers from reverse-engineering the update to develop an exploit.
