Early April Heatwave: UK Braced for Record-Breaking 25C Temperatures
The UK is bracing for its warmest day of the year so far, with temperatures expected to hit 25C before a sharp cooldown later this week.

UK Set for First Taste of Summer with Temperatures Rising to 25C
The United Kingdom is bracing for its warmest period of 2026 so far, as a plume of mild air from the European continent pushes temperatures well above the April average. Forecasters are predicting a peak of 25°C (77°F) by Wednesday in south-east England, marking a significant jump from early spring norms.
A Record-Breaking Start to the Week
According to lead weather presenter Simon King, the south to south-easterly breeze is set to drive temperatures between 6°C and 10°C higher than the seasonal average. On Tuesday, mercury levels are expected to hit 22°C (72F) across the south Midlands and the west coast of Wales.
If reached, this will officially surpass the previous record for the warmest day of the year, which was set on March 31 in Pershore, Worcestershire, at 20.9°C.

Regional Outlook: Sun and Rising Pollen
Most of the UK will enjoy dry and sunny conditions through Tuesday. While Northern Ireland and western Scotland may see some cloud and isolated showers later in the day, these are expected to clear by Wednesday afternoon.
- Wednesday Highlights: Winds will lighten, creating a summer-like atmosphere. The warmest spots will include the Midlands, East Anglia, and the South East.
- Pollen Warning: The spike in temperature has triggered a surge in pollen levels. In England and Wales, tree pollen (specifically birch) is expected to remain "very high." Experts note that birch pollen affects approximately 25-35% of hay fever sufferers and usually peaks between March and early June.
The Return of Seasonal Normals
The mini-heatwave is expected to be short-lived. By Wednesday night, a weather front carrying rain will begin to track south-eastward across the country.
As the wind shifts to a north-westerly direction on Thursday, cooler air will settle back over the British Isles. Temperatures are forecast to drop significantly, returning to a range of 10°C to 14°C (50-57°F) for most areas.
While Friday may see a brief return of high pressure bringing sunshine to England and Wales, forecasters warn that a more "changeable" and unsettled weather pattern is likely to follow as we head into the weekend, particularly for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
