The United Kingdom has requested that X, owned by Elon Musk, address the issue of intimate "deepfake" images generated by its AI chatbot, Grok. This request is part of a broader concern regarding nonconsensual imagery on the platform.

UK Technology Minister Liz Kendall described the content as "appalling" and emphasized the need for the platform to take immediate action. X's Safety account stated that it removes illegal content and permanently suspends accounts involved in such activities. The company has yet to provide an official comment in response to these concerns.

In the United Kingdom, creating or sharing nonconsensual intimate images or child sexual abuse material, including AI-generated sexual imagery, is illegal. Technology platforms are required to prevent users from accessing illegal content and must remove it upon discovery.

The European Commission and UK media regulator Ofcom have both expressed concerns regarding X's compliance with legal standards. French and Indian authorities have also taken steps to address these issues. The United States regulators have not yet commented.

Grok has been criticized for producing misinformation, deepfakes of US elected officials, and other controversial content. This ongoing scrutiny highlights the challenges faced by AI platforms in maintaining compliance with legal and ethical standards.
