On Thu, Oct 2, 2025, a car was driven into pedestrians and a stabbing occurred near a synagogue in Manchester, England, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including the attacker. Three additional victims are in serious condition, according to British police reports.
The incident took place near the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester. Witnesses reported observing a vehicle colliding with pedestrians and a person being stabbed. Greater Manchester Police were alerted to the incident at 9:31 AM (08:31 GMT) and declared a major incident shortly thereafter.
Shots were discharged by police at 9:38 AM. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene by 9:41 AM, providing treatment to affected individuals. Critically injured victims were transported to local hospitals.
Counter-terrorism police have classified the event as a "terrorism incident" and have identified the attacker. Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the attack.
Three additional victims are in serious condition, according to British police reports.
In response, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced increased police presence at synagogues nationwide. An emergency meeting was convened to address the situation.
