The Indian cryptocurrency sector is currently addressing significant legal and cybersecurity challenges following the arrest of CoinDCX executives. Local law enforcement in Thane apprehended co-founders in Bengaluru, who are facing charges of criminal breach of trust. The cryptocurrency exchange claims this incident is due to a brand impersonation campaign rather than internal misconduct.
Authorities registered a First Information Report against individuals connected to a financial scam. An insurance advisor reported losing approximately ₹71.6 lakh to fraudsters who used deceptive tactics promising high-yield cryptocurrency investments. The attackers employed both digital and traditional methods to extract funds, eventually severing communication and becoming untraceable.
CoinDCX has publicly denied the allegations, arguing the incident stems from a cyber fraud conspiracy by unauthorized actors who developed spoofed platforms to impersonate the official exchange. The exchange reported identifying over 1,212 malicious websites mimicking their domain, highlighting the significant threat of brand impersonation in digital finance.

Law enforcement has acknowledged the defense regarding spoofed websites, stating the validity of these claims will be part of their ongoing investigation, which includes digital forensics. CoinDCX has committed to cooperating with authorities and continues to focus on user education and security awareness to combat advanced spoofing tactics.
