Elastic has issued a security advisory regarding a medium-severity vulnerability in the Kibana CrowdStrike Connector. This flaw, identified as CVE-2025-37728, may lead to the exposure of sensitive credentials.
The vulnerability, termed "Insufficiently Protected Credentials in the Crowdstrike connector," has a CVSSv3.1 score of 5.4, classifying it as medium severity. The issue allows a malicious user with access to one space in a Kibana instance to create and execute a new CrowdStrike connector, thereby accessing cached credentials from an existing connector in a different space.
This flaw enables unauthorized access to sensitive API credentials used for communication between Kibana and the CrowdStrike Management Console. Exploiting this vulnerability could result in credential leakage, permitting an attacker to operate within the CrowdStrike platform with the same privileges as the compromised account.
The vulnerability affects several Kibana versions, including:
Elastic has issued a security advisory regarding a medium-severity vulnerability in the Kibana CrowdStrike Connector.
All versions of 7.x up to 7.17.29 Versions 8.14.0 through 8.18.7 Versions 8.19.0 through 8.19.4 Versions 9.0.0 through 9.0.7 Versions 9.1.0 through 9.1.4
Elastic has resolved the issue in versions 8.18.8, 8.19.5, 9.0.8, and 9.1.5. Users are strongly advised to upgrade to these patched versions to mitigate the security risk, as no workarounds are currently available.
The Kibana CrowdStrike connector helps integrate data between the CrowdStrike Falcon platform and Elastic, facilitating automated incident correlation and telemetry onboarding. The credentials involved are crucial for authenticating with the CrowdStrike REST API, making their protection vital for maintaining security across both platforms.
The security advisory (ESA-2025-19) is part of a broader update from Elastic addressing several vulnerabilities in Kibana and Elasticsearch. Administrators of affected deployments are urged to prioritize updates to prevent potential credential theft and misuse.
Elastic emphasizes the need for timely updates and configuration reviews to reduce exposure to such vulnerabilities.
