Recent data indicates that in the twelve months leading up to August 2025, the NCSC addressed 204 nationally significant incidents, a substantial increase from 89 incidents in the previous year.
Among these, 18 incidents were classified as highly significant, reflecting their potential to severely disrupt essential services and infrastructure. This marks a 50% rise compared to the previous year, continuing an upward trend observed over the last three years.
The NCSC's Annual Review highlights that more than half of the 429 incidents required national-level coordination, indicating the systematic nature of the threats facing UK interests.
A considerable number of these attacks were perpetrated by Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) actors, including both nation-state entities and sophisticated criminal organizations.

In response, the NCSC has introduced the Cyber Action Toolkit to aid small organizations in implementing basic security controls against common threats.
This initiative also promotes the Cyber Essentials certification scheme, which offers automatic cyber liability insurance for eligible UK organizations with an annual turnover below £20 million, incentivizing proper security practices across the business landscape.
