Netflix Debuts 'Netflix Playground' Standalone App for Kids' Games
Netflix launches "Netflix Playground," a standalone, ad-free gaming app for children aged eight and under, featuring popular characters like Peppa Pig.

A New Digital Playground for Preschoolers
Streaming giant Netflix is doubling down on its commitment to younger audiences with the launch of Netflix Playground, a dedicated standalone application designed exclusively for children's gaming. Announced on Monday, the app targets children aged eight and under, offering a curated environment that bridges the gap between watching and interacting.
The platform is available at no extra cost to existing Netflix subscribers. Crucially for parents, the app maintains the company’s strict "no-ads" policy and contains no in-app purchases, ensuring a safe and uninterrupted play environment.
Connectivity and Playability
Netflix Playground is designed with mobility in mind. The app features offline functionality, allowing games to be played without a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, highlighted the app's versatility, calling it the "perfect companion for long airplane rides or grocery trips."
"We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them," Derderian stated in a press release. "We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play."

Expanding the Content Library
The app launches with a diverse selection of titles featuring iconic characters from the Netflix kids' catalog:
- Playtime With Peppa Pig: An interactive exploration of Peppa's world.
- Sesame Street: Educational games focusing on memory card matching and hand-eye coordination via connect-the-dots.
- Let’s Color: A creative digital coloring experience.
- Additional Titles: Features based on Storybots, Bad Dinosaurs, and Trash Truck.
Strategic Shift in Gaming
This launch comes at a pivotal time for Netflix’s gaming division. Since first entering the gaming market in 2021, the company has faced challenges in gaining significant user traction, leading to the closure of several internal studios, including Boss Fight, Spry Fox, and a high-budget AAA studio.
Despite these setbacks, Netflix is recalibrating its strategy. While their previous efforts focused on cloud gaming and group-oriented party titles like Tetris and Pictionary, Netflix Playground represents a shift toward a specific, high-engagement demographic.
Availability
Netflix Playground is currently available on both iOS and Android devices in several key markets:
- United States
- Canada
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Philippines
- New Zealand
A comprehensive global rollout is scheduled for April 28, making the service available to subscribers worldwide.
