The incident marks the first seizure of a Chinese vessel since 2022. The captain, a 47-year-old Chinese national, is accused of evading an onboard inspection in waters off Japan's southwest Nagasaki Prefecture, approximately 89.4 nautical miles (165 km) south-southwest of Meshima Island.

According to the Japanese Fisheries Agency, the vessel was ordered to stop for inspection but did not comply and attempted to flee. The captain was subsequently arrested, and there were 10 additional individuals on board at the time. The vessel reportedly has the capacity to catch large quantities of fish such as mackerel and horse mackerel.

The agency suspects potential illicit fishing activities within Japan's exclusive economic zone. The investigation continues, and it has not been disclosed whether the captain has admitted to the allegations.
