His platform, known as the "Implacable Plan," calls for enhanced security measures, including isolating cartel leaders and increasing the use of maximum-security facilities.

In addition to his security platform, Kast opposes abortion, even in cases of rape, which has attracted criticism. He has also been noted for his past remarks about former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, although he has moderated his stance during the election cycle.

Kast's victory is a historic event for Chile's far right, as it is the first time since 1990 that a conservative government will be in power. His election may have implications for regional politics, with leaders from other countries expressing their support.

Kast will face a divided National Congress, potentially limiting the implementation of his more controversial proposals. He will assume office on March 11.
