The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan , has been cleared of allegations of sexual misconduct following an investigation. This decision comes after a confidential report was submitted by a panel of three judges to the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) on March 9.

The panel concluded that the findings by the UN’s Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) did not substantiate any misconduct or breach of duty by Khan. The investigation was initiated in November 2024 by the head of the ASP following accusations from a member of Khan’s office. An additional allegation emerged in August from another individual who reported misconduct while employed by Khan. Khan has denied these allegations and took voluntary leave in May pending the inquiry's outcome.

The ASP convened on Monday to deliberate on the panel’s findings. In accordance with the court’s regulations, if no misconduct is determined, the investigation will be concluded. The ASP has a 30-day window to make a preliminary assessment, after which Khan will have 30 days to respond. Subsequently, the bureau will have another 30 days to finalize its decision.

This decision comes after a confidential report was submitted by a panel of three judges to the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) on March 9.

The allegations surfaced as Khan's office was actively investigating alleged war crimes and genocide by Israeli officials in Gaza, as well as crimes associated with the occupied Palestinian territory. Arrest warrants were pursued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his then-defense minister Yoav Gallant, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, concerning alleged unlawful activities during the conflict in Ukraine.
