The attack coincides with the anniversary of the first large-scale assault on energy facilities following the Russian invasion in February 2022. The Ukrainian energy ministry noted that over 800,000 customers in Kyiv experienced temporary power losses. The Kremlin has intensified its aerial campaign, targeting energy and railway infrastructure, which has compounded previous winter attacks that deprived millions of heating.
The Ukrainian air force reported that the Russian offensive included 465 drones and 32 missiles, of which 405 drones and 15 missiles were intercepted. The intensity of these attacks surpasses last year's levels, with adverse weather conditions contributing to the challenge of countering them.
