Rodriguez took her oath of office on Monday before Venezuela’s National Assembly. During her address, she expressed her opposition to the military operation that led to the capture of Maduro and Cilia Flores, emphasizing her commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the country.
Rodriguez, a former labor lawyer, assumed the acting presidency after the operation, which included reported explosions in Caracas and nearby areas. The swearing-in ceremony was overseen by Jorge Rodriguez, the president of the National Assembly, with attendance from key government figures such as Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello and Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino.

Legal Proceedings and International Response
Meanwhile, Maduro is facing legal proceedings in New York City, charged by federal prosecutors with several offenses, including narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy. Maduro and his wife have denied these charges, with Rodriguez and other allies condemning the operation as a breach of international law.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has indicated a willingness to work with Rodriguez, though there are conditions attached. Trump's administration has suggested that the US will oversee the country during a transitional period, focusing on stabilizing the economy and addressing Venezuela’s oil production issues. Discussions on the timing of future elections remain ongoing.
Venezuela's recent elections have been criticized for alleged irregularities, with opposition leaders and international bodies questioning their legitimacy. The opposition has largely boycotted legislative elections, alleging bias towards the ruling party, leading to limited opposition representation in the National Assembly.
