Weather Update: Tropical Storm Fengshen Impact

Tropical Storm Fengshen has resulted in significant casualties and environmental impacts across the Philippines. As of Sun, Oct 19, 2025, at least five individuals have been confirmed deceased, and two remain missing.

In Quezon province, northern Philippines, a family of five, including two children, perished when a tree collapsed onto their residence. The incident occurred in the town of Pitogo, according to local disaster agency officials.

In the southern region of Mindanao, two individuals were reported missing following a landslide that caused their vehicle to fall off a highway in Bukidnon. This highway, connecting to the Davao region, is currently obstructed.

Approximately 47,000 residents have evacuated their homes in southeastern Luzon, as reported by local authorities. Government shelters are accommodating those displaced. In addition, five dams on Luzon island have released water, according to the national weather agency, Pagasa.

Significant flooding has been reported in the islands of Samar and Panay, with residents being forced to evacuate. A structural collapse in Estancia on Panay Island resulted in one injury.

Aviation and Transportation Disruptions

Several flights have been canceled as the storm affects Luzon. The storm, moving west towards the South China Sea, has also caused road blockages due to landslides.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr emphasized the need for enhanced disaster preparedness in response to the frequent natural calamities affecting the country.

The Philippines, experiencing an average of 20 storms annually, is increasingly vulnerable to severe weather due to climate change, as noted by scientists. The nation is concurrently recovering from recent major earthquakes.
