The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the officer discharged his weapon in response to perceived threats from the woman's vehicle.
The ICE officer fired shots at the woman in her vehicle on Wed, Jan 7, 2026, in a residential neighborhood. DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin stated that the officer acted in self-defense, fearing for his safety and that of his colleagues and the public.
The incident occurred amidst a broader immigration enforcement operation involving approximately 2,000 agents in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The operation is partly in response to allegations of fraud involving Somali residents.
