Major websites, including gaming, financial, and social media platforms, experienced connectivity issues following an outage in Amazon Web Services (AWS).

AWS acknowledged the issue on its status page on Mon, citing significant error rates for requests made to the DynamoDB endpoint in the US-EAST-1 Region. AWS identified a potential root cause and is working on recovery.

Impact on Platforms

  • AI startup Perplexity
  • Trading app Robinhood
  • Messaging app Signal
  • Crypto exchange Coinbase

These platforms attributed their service disruptions to the AWS outage. AWS, a major cloud computing provider, competes with Google and Microsoft, offering on-demand computing power and data storage.

Additional Affected Services

  • Zoom
  • Roblox
  • Fortnite
  • Duolingo
  • Canva
  • Wordle
  • Amazon’s shopping website
  • PrimeVideo
  • Alexa

Reports indicated that Uber rival Lyft’s app was also down for users in the US, and many UK bank customers experienced outages as well.
