Incident Involving ICE Agents and Suspects in Maryland
Two individuals sustained injuries in Glen Burnie, Maryland, following an incident where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents discharged firearms at a moving vehicle. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that the ICE agents were attempting to arrest two men from Portugal and El Salvador, who were allegedly residing in the United States unlawfully.
According to DHS, the officers instructed the driver to switch off his engine. However, the driver did not comply and instead collided with multiple ICE vehicles. In response, the ICE officers discharged their service weapons defensively, resulting in the driver being struck. Subsequently, the vehicle crashed between two buildings, causing injuries to the passenger. Both individuals received medical treatment, and no ICE agents were injured during the altercation.
Statements from DHS and Local Authorities
A DHS statement emphasized the risks faced by officers in maintaining public safety and highlighted concerns about individuals resisting ICE efforts. Additionally, local police confirmed the interaction with a "white van" and noted the driver's attempt to run over the agents.
