According to documents posted on the Rivian Forums, the midsize electric SUV achieves an official EPA range estimate of 335 miles (539 km) when equipped with the standard 21-inch wheels and performance tires.
The All-Terrain Trade-off
The leaked data provides a clear look at how wheel and tire choices impact efficiency. While smaller wheels typically extend an EV's range by reducing aerodynamic drag, the R2’s 20-inch option tells a different story.
When fitted with 20-inch wheels wrapped in knobby all-terrain tires, the EPA estimate drops to 314 miles (505 km). This 21-mile penalty highlights the significant rolling resistance and aerodynamic impact of off-road-oriented rubber compared to the more streamlined 21-inch performance setup.

- DC Fast-Charging: The R2 will support a maximum rate of 210 kW.
- Level 2 AC Charging: Home or destination charging is capped at 11.5 kW.
- Efficiency: Every R2 will come standard with a heat pump, an upgraded version of the unit found in the R1S and R1T, which should improve cold-weather range.
Pricing and Availability
Rivian is currently prioritizing the higher-end trims of its newest model. The R2 Performance is slated to arrive first with a price tag of $57,990. It will be followed in late 2026 by the R2 Premium, priced at $53,990. Both models utilize the same 87.9 kWh battery pack.
Budget-conscious buyers will have to wait until late 2027 for the entry-level version, which is expected to start at $45,000 and will feature a smaller battery pack.
