According to a statement from Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee, the victim has been identified as Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces' General Staff. The investigation is exploring multiple hypotheses, including potential involvement by Ukrainian intelligence services.
The Russian Defence Ministry reported that Lt. Gen. Sarvarov had previously participated in military operations in Chechnya and Syria.
