Snapchat Introduces New Memories Storage Plans
Snapchat has announced the introduction of new Memories Storage Plans in response to the increasing number of photos and videos saved by users. Since the launch of Memories in 2016, over 1 trillion snaps have been saved. The feature was designed to allow users to store selected snaps without using their phone’s camera roll.
Previously, each account had a 5GB limit. According to Team Snapchat, most users will not be affected as they use less than this amount. For those exceeding the 5GB limit, new paid storage plans have been introduced.
The new storage options include 100GB and 250GB plans for Snapchat+ subscribers and a 5TB plan through Snapchat Platinum. Users will have 12 months of temporary storage to decide whether to purchase additional space. It is noted that users can always download their snaps to their devices if they choose not to upgrade.
Transition to Paid Storage
Snapchat has explained that the shift from free to paid storage is a strategic decision to continue investing in the Memories feature. This transition aims to maintain the sustainability of the service while providing users with options based on their storage needs.
Snapchat previously introduced subscription features in 2022 with Snapchat Plus, offering early access to tools and experimental features. Snapchat Platinum now offers higher storage capacity for users who save a large number of snaps.
The company emphasizes that these changes primarily target power users and will not affect those with fewer saved snaps.
