SpaceD is a London-based startup focused on transforming underutilized commercial basements and service floors into sustainable micro data center sites. The platform employs an AI-powered geospatial engine to integrate datasets, including power grid capacity, fiber connectivity, and Ordnance Survey data, for identifying optimal locations for edge computing. SpaceD facilitates heat reuse and “grid-aware” workload scheduling, providing a decarbonized solution that complements traditional hyperscale data centers and assists buildings in improving their EPC ratings while addressing increased AI demand.
Established in October 2024, SpaceD addresses the dual challenge of rising AI compute demand and underused urban real estate. It collaborates with real estate owners and data center operators to deploy efficient micro data centers, reducing deployment costs by 40% and site acquisition time by 90%. The EcoRoute orchestration layer adapts workloads to real-time grid capacity and thermal limits.
SpaceD uniquely integrates power availability, high-speed connectivity, and geospatial intelligence for decentralized urban infrastructure, enhancing future smart city resilience. It also focuses on the “Green Premium” by identifying buildings suitable for waste heat export to district cooling or heating networks, creating new revenue streams.

The global micro data center market is projected to reach $88 billion by 2034, driven by AI and IoT. In London, 8% of commercial space is vacant, and upcoming EPC B regulations risk making assets unlettable. SpaceD capitalizes on this by monetizing underutilized spaces and providing necessary low-latency infrastructure for AI applications.
SpaceD is based in London with plans for global expansion. It has been recognized as a UK Finalist in ClimateLaunchpad and is part of the Geovation Accelerator. SpaceD is also participating in the Innovate UK Global Business Innovation Programme – Women in AI, Sweden. For more information, visit https://spaced.city/ .
