Update on TikTok's Content Customization Features
TikTok has introduced a new feature allowing users to manage their content preferences more effectively within the app. The "manage topics" setting utilizes a set of sliders, enabling users to adjust the frequency of particular types of videos in their recommendations. Available across various topics such as nature, food and drink, fashion and beauty, and pets, these sliders allow users to select either "see more" or "see less" for each interest.
It is important to note that these controls will not entirely eliminate any topics. TikTok states that while the sliders can influence the frequency of recommendations, complete removal of specific content, such as sports, is not possible.
For users seeking more precise control over their feeds, TikTok is enhancing its keyword filtering feature. This option allows users to exclude specific keywords from their content. The app will now employ AI to expand keyword filters, adding related terms and alternate spellings. For instance, filtering out "remodeling" might also block "renovations." Additionally, variations like "cat" and "c@t" will be automatically filtered. TikTok anticipates these "smart filters" will become more precise over time, eventually supporting up to 200 keywords.
