In August, Danish officials summoned the top US diplomat in Copenhagen after reports surfaced of covert influence operations in Greenland involving individuals connected to the US administration.

According to Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly, the creation of the special envoy role underscores the administration's view of Greenland as a strategically important location in the Arctic for maintaining peace through strength.

The President of the European Union Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has stated that Arctic security is a key priority for the EU. She emphasized the importance of territorial integrity and sovereignty as fundamental principles of international law and expressed full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland.
