The UK government has formally blocked American rapper Kanye West, legally known as Ye, from entering the United Kingdom. The decision comes just weeks before he was scheduled to headline the Wireless Festival in London this summer.
According to a Home Office statement provided to the BBC, West applied for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) on Tuesday. However, the application was swiftly denied. Officials stated that his presence in the country would "not be conducive to the public good," citing a history of inflammatory rhetoric.
A History of Controversy
For the past several years, West has been the subject of global condemnation following a series of antisemitic, racist, and pro-Nazi remarks. These included the release of a track titled "Heil Hitler" and widely criticized comments suggesting that slavery was a "choice."
Earlier on Tuesday, West released a statement attempting to bridge the gap with his critics. "I know words aren't enough," he said, expressing a desire to meet with leaders of the British Jewish community to "listen" and "show change through actions."

Jewish Groups Respond
The Board of Deputies of British Jews responded to West’s outreach with skepticism. Board President Phil Rosenberg stated they were willing to meet the artist, but only under the condition that he withdrew from the Wireless Festival.
"The Jewish community will want to see genuine remorse and change before believing that the appropriate place to test this sincerity is on the main stage at Wireless," Rosenberg said.
Festival Organizers Under Fire
Before the Home Office intervention, Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic, had defended the booking while acknowledging that West's past behavior was "abhorrent" and "disgusting."
Speaking to BBC Radio 4, Benn urged for compassion regarding the rapper’s mental health struggles. "People suffer psychotic behavior, suffer bipolar behavior, for many, many years... And I think people are forgetting that," Benn noted. However, he admitted that if the Home Secretary intervened, "the issue is over."
With the visa denial now confirmed, the decision has been effectively taken out of the hands of festival organizers. At the time of reporting, Wireless Festival has not issued an official update regarding their revised lineup.
