UK Heatwave: Temperatures to Hit 25°C in Record April Warmth
The UK is set to witness a 25°C heat spike this Wednesday, marking the warmest day of 2026 so far before a cold front returns later this week.

Summer-Like Temperatures Set Early Season Records
The United Kingdom is bracing for its warmest weather of the year so far, with a dramatic temperature spike expected to peak this Wednesday. According to meteorologists, a south-easterly breeze is currently funneling warm continental air across the British Isles, pushing thermometers significantly above the seasonal norm.
Forecasts suggest that Southeast England could see highs of 25°C (77°F) by Wednesday afternoon, a figure more synonymous with high summer than early April.
A New Peak for the Year
The heat began building early this week, outperforming the mild conditions seen on Easter Monday. Until now, the highest temperature recorded in 2026 was 20.9°C (69.6F), which was logged on March 31 in Pershore, Worcestershire.
That record is expected to fall today, with the south Midlands and the Welsh west coast likely hitting 22°C (72F). By tomorrow, the warmth will intensify across the Midlands, East Anglia, and the Southeast.
The United Kingdom is bracing for its warmest weather of the year so far, with a dramatic temperature spike expected to peak this Wednesday.
- Tuesday: Sunny skies for England, Wales, and Scotland; cloud cover increasing in Northern Ireland and western Scotland later in the day.
- Wednesday: Clearer skies as morning cloud dissipates in the north, leaving most of the UK feeling like a "typical summer's day."
Health Warning: High Pollen Levels
While the sunshine is a welcome sight for many, it brings a significant challenge for hay fever sufferers. Pollen counts have surged in tandem with the temperatures.
"Very high" pollen levels are expected across England and Wales today and Wednesday. Experts note that the UK is currently in the midst of the tree pollen season, which typically runs from March to June. Birch pollen is the primary allergen at this stage, affecting approximately 25% to 35% of those with hay fever.
Rain to Halt the Heatwave
The unseasonable warmth will be short-lived. A shifting weather pattern is expected to move in late Wednesday night.
A band of rain will sweep across the country from the northwest on Thursday, ushering in a cooler north-westerly wind. This transition will see temperatures tumble back to the seasonal average, landing between 10°C and 14°C (50-57°F) for most regions.
While high pressure will briefly return on Friday to offer a dry start to the weekend for England and Wales, forecasters predict a transition to more "changeable" and unsettled weather for Scotland and Northern Ireland moving forward.
