The Spanish government has announced a new policy granting residency and work permits to foreign nationals who arrived in the country before 31 December 2025. Eligible applicants must have resided in Spain for a minimum of five months and possess a clear criminal record.
Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated that integrating these migrants into the formal economy will bolster Spain's social security system. This policy aims to add approximately half a million workers to the country's formal workforce.

Murad Ali Wazir, Pakistan's consul general in Barcelona, mentioned that approximately 15,000 Pakistani citizens residing in Catalonia may qualify for this opportunity. The consulate is extending its operating hours to facilitate the process.
