Witkoff expressed optimism about the meetings, emphasizing the necessity for peace. He noted that negotiations are approaching the final stages, with approximately 10% of the deal yet to be finalized.
Kyiv has largely agreed to the proposed peace plan; however, unresolved issues, particularly regarding territorial disputes, persist. Furthermore, Ukraine seeks clear post-war security guarantees from its allies to prevent potential future conflicts with Moscow.
The talks occur amidst ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure by Moscow during the peak of winter. The United States has recently increased efforts to facilitate a resolution to this prolonged conflict.
